Tomas Keppens, Ellio Founder and CTO worked as a sound and vibration engineer at Toyota when, in 2011, he came up with the idea of using car propulsion technology in speed pedelecs.
“By using automotive technology, e-bikes will become more reliable, safer and easier to use,” said Tomas. Moreover, such speed pedelecs would contribute to an ecological future.
To accelerate his project, Tomas worked with various Flemish universities. That's where he met co-founder Jorrit.
Jorrit Heidbuchel, Ellio Co-founder and CEO, studied vehicle techniques as a civil engineer at the KU Leuven when he became involved with Ellio in 2016..
He ended up dedicating his entire master thesis to the Ellio in the making and, together with Tomas, built a first prototype of their speed pedelec. The result exceeded everyone's expectations; they couldn't miss an opportunity like this.
In 2017, the engineering duo co-founded IntueDrive, the company behind Ellio.
